Tot news, everyone. After Bay View’s Palomino (2491 S. Superior St.) closed for remodeling in 2013, it came back with a new menu. Some old faves stayed, but the tots, nope. Good news for anyone who has felt its absence in a longing way. The tots are back. Short story is that chef/co-owner Adam Lucks wasn’t fond of the old tot recipe. But he waited until he was putting in shifts in the Palomino kitchen before niggling the recipe. He’s had time these last couple months to attend to the business of tots. Not only are these fried potato balls back, the menu in toto has a different look. It’s a little tighter. The focus is on appetizers ($4-$10); fried chicken dinners served with sides, pickles and biscuits; and sandwiches ($10-$13), including ropa vieja (Cuban-style pulled beef with mayo, Swiss cheese and fried onions on a hoagie bun). For a slight upcharge, the tots can come with any sandwich, instead of fries. Bring it. (414-747-1007)
