Meet the Judges!

Max Humphrey is a Portland, Oregon-based interior designer known for his laid-back, Americana-inspired style. A former punk rock musician and TV production pro, he launched his design firm after a decade designing homes in Los Angeles. His work spans residential, commercial and hospitality projects nationwide. Humphrey’s designs have been featured in Architectural Digest, House Beautiful and The New York Times. He’s also the author of the books Modern Americana and Lodge.

Mark Peters, AIA is the principal of Studio Dwell Architects, an architectural and design practice located in Chicago. The firm was founded in 2005. The work of Studio Dwell Architects has received local and national recognition through design awards, architectural publications and books. Peters was born and raised in Wisconsin and earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois-Chicago. 

Thomas Szolwinski is Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Wisconsin Art, where he develops exhibitions and oversees the museum’s collection of historic and contemporary design. Before joining MOWA, he worked at Sotheby’s auction house in the 20th Century Design department and served as a curatorial fellow at the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, both in New York City. He holds a BA from UW-Whitewater and an MA from Parsons School of Design. 

Shoshana Resnikoff oversees the research, exhibition, and acquisition of modern and contemporary design at Milwaukee Art Museum. She has previously held curatorial positions at The Wolfsonian–FIU, Peabody Essex Museum, and Cranbrook Art Museum, and has an MA in American Material Culture from The Winterthur Program in American Material Culture at the University of Delaware.
