Aside from playing a Summefest show and a couple others, Milwaukee/Madison power-pop quartet Surgeons In Heat has been pretty quiet this summer. Founding member/frontman Jonathon Mayer has traveled the West coast (and, currently the East coast before heading to Europe) as a touring member of Jaill, while the three other Surgeons have been busy playing out with regularity in their other project, Pioneer.
But before temporarily parting ways on a summer break, they swung by Rock Island, Ill.’s renowned Daytrotter Studio to lay down some tracks, just as many noted indie bands – and such Milwaukee acts as Collections Of Colonies Of Bees, The Fatty Acids and Juniper Tar, among others – have before them.
The session includes four songs from the band’s solid self-titled 2012 album, including “Addressed To Me,” “No One Left” – of which the Daytrotter crew says, “The first two songs in this session by Wisconsin band Surgeons In Heat make us feel as if we’re waking up in an empty bed, in an empty house. It should make others feel the same way too … the band reinforces that feeling with a sumptuous blend of Memphis and Detroit rhythm and blues.” The band also performed “The Price” and “Better On Your Own.”
