In a month, you’ll be able to get your hands on a copy of chef Sandy D’Amato’s memoirs, Good Stock: Life on a Low Simmer. The former Sanford Restaurant owner writes about his MKE upbringing (his family lived in the apartment above their grocery store, which is now occupied by Sanford) and his years spent cooking in NYC. It also features more than 80 of his recipes. He and his business partner/spouse Angie are setting off soon on their book tour, which includes (sold-out) dinners at Sanford in mid-October. Good thing the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin Foundation is doing two book launch events of its own. One is a four-course dinner on Oct. 19 (5-9 p.m.). The other event is a three-course luncheon, Oct. 24 (11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.). The luncheon includes a cooking demo by the D’Amatos. Your ticket includes a signed copy of Good Stock. Dinner $150 (or dinner and VIP party $200); lunch $85. Click here to buy tickets…. Also, the Coquette Cafe guys — Nick Burki and Chris Hatleli, who purchased Coquette from Sandy and Angie three-plus years ago — will have a special guest at their Nov. 19 cooking class. Mr. D’Amato himself will co-pilot the class featuring recipes from his book. A few highlights: lamb- and currant-stuffed grape leaves with spiced yogurt, and dark-roasted hazelnut chocolate torte. Nov. 19, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: $96, which includes a signed copy of Good Stock. Reserve a spot now: 414-291-2655. (316 N. Milwaukee St., Third Ward)
