Where to Celebrate Asian Restaurant Week in Milwaukee

Where to Celebrate Asian Restaurant Week in Milwaukee

One of the cornerstone events of AAPI Month, this week-long initiative is a great time to give extra love to our Asian restaurant community.

Mark your calendar: May 17-23 is Asian Restaurant Week, one of the key local events during Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Essentially, what the week is about is supporting Asian restaurants – whether they’re places you know and love or ones you’ve been wanting to try.

Local collective/community group ElevAsian has a great list of restaurants to check out, but it’s just a starting point. Three restaurants on the list are offering a special available only during Asian Restaurant Week. They are:

Ni Burmese (2140 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.), which is offering $10 off a $50 order, dine in or carryout. If you haven’t tried Burmese cuisine, it may remind you a bit of Thai. It also has influences from Chinese and Indian cuisines, while being very distinctly its own. One of my favorite dishes there is the fermented tea leaf salad, which showcases earthy, pickly, pungent flavors.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

Ono Kine Grindz (7215 W. North Ave., Tosa) is a specialty shop and restaurant for Hawaiian dishes like kalua pig and char siu chicken. The Asian Restaurant Week special is 15% off all menu items using the code: ElevAsian26

The Laotian concept SapSap, with locations at 3rd St. Market Hall (275 W. Wisconsin Ave.) and Zocalo Food Park (636 S. Sixth St.), is offering one free egg roll with an order of brisket-fried rice.

ElevAsian’s list breaks down by sub-cuisine and includes Burmese, Chinese; Cambodian; Hmong, Lao and Thai; Indian and Indian Pakistani; Indonesian; Japanese; Korean; Himalayan/Nepalese; Taiwanese; Vietnamese; and West Asian and Middle Eastern. There are restaurants that serve multiple Asian cuisines, and Asian grocery stores. Check out the list here.
