My fiancee and I document a lot of our Milwaukee excursions on Instagram (@livemilwaukee). If we’ve learned anything, it’s that our favorite restaurant is whichever one we haven’t tried yet. There’s always something new here, right next to something old, and I like taking pictures of both of them.
I still get excited every time Wisconsin gets mentioned on TV, whether it’s a national news story or that one time Oak Creek came up on Netflix’s “Iron Fist.” There’s this sense of joy I feel whenever my state gets recognized.
There’s a need for daily reminders of the city we love to overlook. That’s why I started my Instagram, and another Instagram (jmke.visuals), and an Etsy page, and a website.
After work, I enjoy wandering with my camera. Sometimes that leads me to climbing an abandoned ladder on Jones Island or ending up surrounded by concrete underneath an overpass. Through my photography, I want people to see how cool Milwaukee really is.
