Frank & Larry’s Buckatabon Supper Club (7700 Harwood Ave.) barely had a chance to open before the pandemic hit and restaurant dining rooms were forced to close. But last weekend (April 17-19), the Tosa restaurant – operated by Lowlands Group and a sibling to Cafés Benelux, Centraal and Hollander, all of which are currently closed – had a grand curbside opening.
It’s open weekends only – Friday-Sunday. The restaurant has a special curbside carryout menu of comfort food specialties such as Larry’s lasagna ($23 for 1, $39 for 2, $69 for 4); BBQ ribs with smoked baron cornbread, choice of baked potato or fries; a 12-ounce queen-cut prime rib served with Yorkshire pudding, horseradish-smoked sour cream, and choice of baked potato or steak fries ($29 for 1, $55 for 2, $95 for 4); and fish fry on Friday to Saturday nights. That fish is haddock fried in a Central Waters Mudpuppy Porter beer batter served with potato pancakes, apple sauce, tartar sauce, creamy lemongrass kombucha slaw, rye bread and charred lemon ($15 for 1, $23 for 2, $41 for 4).

New to the menu this week is fried cheese curds! They’re available on Saturday and Sunday only. They’re breaded and served with ranch dressing (half-pound $10.95, full pound $17.95). Loaded cheese curds are also available. They’re tossed in buffalo sauce, topped with shaved celery and chives, and served with a side of blue cheese dressing ($12.95).
Sunday brunch items include hot ham and rolls (half-pound $8.95-1 pound $15.95); prime rib and eggs with Hollander potatoes ($19.95); prime rib hash ($16.95).
The Buckatabon has a few to-go options: pickup from a carryout window, curbside delivery on State Street and in the nearby Tosa parking lot, and delivery via DoorDash).
The hours are Friday and Saturday dinner 3-8 p.m., Sunday brunch 10 a.m.-2 p.m. You can pre-order too by calling on Wednesday and Thursday noon-8 p.m. and Friday noon-3 p.m.
For curbside service, call 414-271-7700. When you arrive for pickup, park across the bridge in the Tosa Village parking lot (across from the Little Red Store). Look for chalkboards with a phone number to text them that you are there and they will run your order out to your car.
