Bay View’s Palomino Is Closed – For Now, At Least

Owners say staffing issues are to blame for the closure.

First, the impending closure of Fool’s Errand. Now this one is down for the count: Palomino (2491 S. Superior St., Bay View). Since the pandemic, restaurants have been getting hit from all sides. You’ve undoubtedly heard about the staffing issues in the food & bev industry. Val Lucks, co-owner of Palomino’s parent company Pie Inc., says that is precisely what is to blame in this case.

“We are having an impossible time finding cooks,” Lucks says.

From what I’ve been hearing, they’re not alone.

VOTE FOR MILWAUKEE’S BEST BEER!

What’s Brew City’s best? We’ve picked 16 of our favorite Milwaukee craft beers for a March Madness-style tournament, but it’s up to you to pick the winner! Will it be bright and hoppy? Dark and malty? A zippy lager? Every one is worthy of the title; who will claim the sudsy crown?

Lucks says for the time being, Palomino will open only for special events and dinners like the upcoming Peach Social With Tree Ripe Fruit Co. on July 27. Pic Inc. still has its offices – and runs its bake shop – out of the Palomino space. In spring, Lucks says they will assess the hiring situation and go from there.

Pie Inc. also runs several other businesses – Honeypie, SmallPie and Comet Cafe, which recently reopened following a two-year pause. After taking ownership of Comet, Pie Inc. kicked off breakfast and lunch hours back in June. And starting Wednesday, July 27, the hours will change to Wed-Sun 9 a.m.-9 p.m. – so dinner will be back soon!
