Can You Guess Which of These New State Fair Foods Are Real and Which We Made Up?

The State Fair announced over 80 new foods this year – and they are bonkers.

This week, the State Fair announced more than 80 new food and beverage options that will be for sale at this year’s event, Aug. 4-14. As we read through the options, our eyes grew wider and our hearts beat with something between terror and unholy desire.

There is some absolutely bonkers stuff on that list this year.

To show you just how bonkers, we’ve mixed up the real options with ones that we just thought up. Half are real, half aren’t. Can you tell the difference? Go through the list, find the answers at the bottom, and see how you do

Guess Which State Fair Foods Are Real

Based on the list of new State Fair dishes, we decided to come up with a few of our own. Can you tell which are the real deal?

How many did you get right? Rate your score below:

40 – Do you work for the State Fair? Because wow, that was good. Honestly, it kind of hurts our feelings that we didn’t even fool you once. Well done.

30-39 – You’re a stone-cold pro. We may have pulled a few over on you, but you’re no State Fair amateur. You can tell when something’s got the authentic Fair Food Feel.

21-29 – Pretty good. You did better than 50% on these, so you clearly have some ability to suss out the real weird stuff from the fake weird stuff. We suspect you’re no stranger to deep fried delights.

20 – A clean 50/50. In statistical terms, if you had guessed randomly, you would have gotten exactly the same score. Does that make you statistically insignificant? Maybe technically, but you still matter to us.

10-19 – Could have been better. But it also could have been worse. You got a decent number right, so feel free to reward yourself with an Arctic Bug Blast Slush.

1-9 – Don’t feel too bad. The food is particularly off-the-wall this year, and frankly we think our made-up-food-devising skills are pretty decent.

0 – Well, darn. That didn’t go as well as it could have, huh? No need to dwell on it. Here’s a positive spin: All those crazy foods you thought were fake are actually real, and you can go eat them.
