The results from a reader survey on dining offered some great suggestions for seeking stomach-related comfort during this bitter-cold season.

In a recent online survey, we asked readers to tell us what their favorite comfort food is and which restaurant makes it best. Here’s what they said:

 

“I order the [vegetarian] Guinness BBQ sandwich with vegan chicken swimming in barbecue, piled on potato bread, with mashed potatoes, coleslaw and a grilled scallion” at County Clare (1234 N. Astor St.). That and “the cozy pub atmosphere make you forget the cold outside.” – Jessica Gebhardt, Bay View

“Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. Or stuffed cabbage. [They] remind me of my mom,” says Robert Jakubiak of Milwaukee. His pick for the “good simple food and family atmosphere” is Meyers Restaurant (4260 S. 76th St., Greenfield).

“Simply amazing” is Merriment Social’s (240 E. Pittsburgh Ave.) spicy (red hot) fried chicken, says Margaret Crocker of Shorewood. The chicken comes with “these killer cheddar-chive biscuits” and sea salt-honey butter. In winter, Crocker favors “anything warm and spicy!”

“Pizza… because it’s one thing everyone can agree on!” says Elizabeth Kusko of Brookfield. She cites Mama Mia’s (18880 W. Bluemound Rd., Brookfield; 200 W. Summit Ave., Wales) as “a long-time family favorite.” Plus, “their garlic bread is hands-down unbeatable!”
