Walker’s Point globally inspired restaurant Meraki (939 S. Second St., 414-897-7230) has been busy offering its menu for curbside service – Mon-Thurs noon-7 p.m., Fri-Sat noon-8 p.m. That means everything from menu classics like Korean smoked brisket to the Friday cod fry. Beyond that, the restaurant is also hosting pop-ups. Each week, it’s something different. Southern comfort food, Italian American cuisine and the British Isles are a few of the previous themes.
This week – Tues-Thurs April 21-23 – you can explore the cuisine of Jamaica with appetizers like “Stamp and Go” (salt cod fritters, $5) and entrees including jerk chicken (or cauliflower), escovitch snapper (seared snapper with vinegar-cured veggies) and curried goat. Entrees are $10 each and come with one side, such as coconut rice and beans, roti (flatbread) and johnnycakes, which are savory/sweet fried dumplings. The pop-up dessert is banana fritters with cinnamon, sugar and rum ($5). The pop-up hours are noon-7 p.m.
Later this week is a two-day pop-up featuring Indian cuisine, Fri-Sat April 24-25. Owner/executive chef Chad Meier has mapped out a pretty sweet menu, with samosas and masala dosas (crepes) among the appetizers ($5). Entrees ($10) include a vindaloo of chicken or sweet potatoes and spinach, a fish curry, and malai kofta (deep-fried potato-cheese balls). And each comes with one side, be it basmati rice, lime rice, leavened flat bread or red lentil dal. Dessert is the wonderful warm fritter-soaked-in-rose-syrup called gulab jamun ($5). The hours for the Indian pop-up run noon-8 p.m.
