Café Corazón in Bay View Has Announced Its Closing Date

Its last day is Friday Oct. 2, followed by a farewell party on Oct. 3.

In July, the owners of Café Corazón announced that the building housing their Bay View location (2394 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) was up for sale but that the restaurant would continue to operate until the building sells. Closing time has come.

Corazón’s last day of operations is Friday, Oct. 2, with a farewell party at that location happening the next day, Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4-9 p.m. Festivities include a DJ, drink specials, a full bar and a “limited” $15 taco bar (as in, come early, before it runs out).

The owners, George and Wendy Mireles, will also be auctioning off art and memorabilia from the Bay View location, which opened 10 years ago.

“We’re heartbroken about the closing, but we also want our fans to take home a piece of the restaurant they’ve come to love,” Wendy said in the press release.

Customers don’t need to wait until the farewell party to put in their bids in the silent auction. They can do that anytime at the Bay View location between now and Oct. 3.

George also explained, via the press release, the reason for Bay View’s closing. “After Wendy’s cancer diagnosis, we made the tough decision to downsize and put the building that houses our Café Corazón in Bay View up for sale,” he said.

Bay View’s closing does not affect the other Corazón locations – Riverwest and Brown Deer – which remain open.

Bay View’s hours through Oct. 2 will be Tues-Sat, 4-8 p.m.
