Café Corazón Bay View Will Remain Open Until Building Is Sold

The Mexican concept also has a location in Riverwest and in Brown Deer.

The owners of Café Corazón are selling the Bay View building that houses their restaurant (2394 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.), one of three locations of the Mexican concept. The restaurant will remain open until the building sells, the owners said in a statement.

George and Wendy Mireles became Milwaukee restaurateurs in 2009 when they opened the first Corazón in a quirkily shaped Riverwest building (a former train service station) adjacent to the Beerline Trail. They opened the Bay View location in 2016 and the Brown Deer one in 2022. They also had a location in Mequon Public Market from 2019-22.

One of the ways the Mireles have tried to distinguish Corazón from other Mexican establishments is with its from-the-farm ethos, using locally sourced produce and, at one point, beef from Wendy’s family farm.

The owners’ statement in toto:

After 10 years serving the Bay View community, we have made the tough decision to put the building that is home to our Café Corazón restaurant in Bay View up for sale. Our Riverwest and Brown Deer locations will continue to serve guests without interruption, and we plan to keep our Bay View Café Corazón open until the building sells.

We are incredibly thankful to our Bay View guests who have become like family to us. People have fallen in love, celebrated major life moments, and made lasting friendships in our Bay View restaurant. We are also grateful to our amazing team members, who have fed and served our guests for the last decade in Bay View. We are working with the affected team members to try to help them find positions at our other locations.

As a family-owned and operated Milwaukee business, we hope folks will come and visit our Bay View Café Corazón and help us say goodbye to this amazing team, restaurant, and neighborhood.
