Believe it or not, wild turkey sightings were rare in Wisconsin prior to 1976, when the state Department of Natural Resources began rebuilding populations weakened by lost habitats and unregulated hunting. Since then, the noble gobbler has grown to the point of making inroads into our urban jungle, where watchers breathlessly share chance encounters on social media. “The Eastside Turkey” page on Facebook serves as a clearinghouse for all things city bird – from the titular turkey’s musings to a busy schedule of appearances.
