To reiterate the headline: Any and all indie rock enthusiasts should have hit Club Garibaldi Saturday night. Y’all missed out. Those who were there, however, saw something drop-drown drag-out awesome. Simply put: Milagres killed it.
The Brooklyn, NY, five-piece graciously took the Garibaldi stage pre-Peter Wolf Crier, opening with “Here To Stay” and continuing through a solid set primarily consisting of tracks off its new album, Glowing Mouth.
A more energetic Grizzly Bear with a bit of Antlers mixed in (well put concert buddy, Andy), Milagres were extraordinarily polished and well-spoken, grateful for every body in the room. Melodies were spot on, and despite a few sound adjustments throughout the set, the piano-laced tracks raced from gut-wrenching emotional to pleasantly poppy and back again.
Pinpointing highlights is almost meaningless. “Halfway,” Gentle Beast” and “Glowing Mouth” were all fantastic, as was their audience engagement, making the classic Wayne’s World joke (It was their first time here, so they get one free pass.) and calling for requests, busting into Tom Petty’s “Don’t Come Around Here No More” effortlessly.
In the middle of a six-week tour in a passenger van rocking 150,000 miles, Milagres now splits from Peter Wolf Crier, making their way west after a few more Midwest stops.
If you can catch them elsewhere, be sure to. They won’t be a club band for long.
