Green Bay Packers fans are some of the most loyal, dedicated supporters in all of professional sports. There are times when this ardor provides for some goosebump-inducing moments, like the dramatic reception for the team at Austin Straubel Airport following the Super Bowl-clinching victory over the Chicago Bears or the chorus of “Go, Pack, Go” raining down from the fast-emptying seats of the Georgia Dome as Green Bay dismantled the top-seeded Atlanta Falcons. There are also times when this provides for some nausea-inducing moments, like the overzealous Packers fan who used her three minutes of fame to pronounce her undying loyalty for the team on “American Idol.”
With our beloved Packers one step away from yet another dose of Super Bowl immortality, we thought it might be fun to take a look at how fans of the Green and Gold have musically paid tribute to the Titans of Titletown this year, adding to an already impressive catalog of Packers-themed gems (much of which barely classifies as music and is insulting to everything that we as a civilized society should hold dear).
Enjoy!
Lil Wayne “Green & Yellow”
In this brand new hip-hop ode to his adopted favorite football team (Mr. Wayne is originally from New Orleans), Lil professes his love for the Pack with his trademark silky smooth delivery and transcendent lyrics like, “Long hair, don’t care, Clay Matthews. We shittin’ on these fools, no bathroom.”
He even includes all of the teams the Packers faced in the playoff and hates on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Amazing that he could pull this instant classic together in such a short time span. It’s as if he put no effort into it at all!
Eddy J Lemberger “Aaron Rodgers Rock and Roll”
This guy should really have his own post. Screw that, he should have his own website! Oh wait, he does.
The creator of such Packers classics as “I Love My Green Bay Packers,” “Santa Can You Bring Me A Packer Victory” and “The Super Bowl Polka,” Eddy J one-upped himself this year with the release of the udder-ly (terrible cow pun in the spirit of Eddy J) gouda (terrible cheese pun… well, you get the idea) man-crush anthem, “Aaron Rogers Rock and Roll.”
Be on the lookout for our own Tyler Maas’ loving tribute, “BJ Raji Rock and Roll,” dropping in stores sometime this summer.
Higher Education “Feelin’ So Fly Like a Cheesehead”
Surprisingly decent production values set this take-off of Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” apart from the majority of the fly-by-night YouTube sensation Packers songs. These people obviously put a lot of time and effort into creating this jam, and it has paid off in more than 850,000 views on YouTube and the ultimate Web video-related accolade: crappy take-offs of your crappy take-off. Ah the wonders of technology!
I can honestly say that this version of the song is even more enjoyable than the original. I’ll leave you to decide what that means.
Pat McCurdy “We Love the Green and Gold”
Ugh.
Know Your Enemy
In the spirit of good sportsmanship and giving credit where credit is due, here is a pretty well done tribute to Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel’s impressive flowing mop of facial hair. It’s no “Aaron Rogers Rock and Roll,” but at least Steelers fans will have something to laugh about after their football team gets embarrassed this weekend.
