Summerfest Fashion

Summer is in full swing in Milwaukee and heat wave would be an understatement to describe the first week of July. The music and the attractions raged on at Summerfest and there was no better place to see a diverse sampling of people and fashion. Summer is in full
swing in Milwaukee and heat wave would be an understatement to describe the first week of July. The music and the attractions raged on at Summerfest and there was no better place to see a diverse sampling of people and fashion. Accordingly, I took to
the fest to find what people were sporting to stay cool.

There were plenty
of boys in bright and striped tank tops, a welcome change from the no-shirt
or cut-off t-shirt look. There were hats of all types, especially straw cowboy
hats, though I favor the fedora. Ladies looked lovely in strappy and maxi
dresses in bold patterns and stripes.

I saw a lot of
bohemian looks, bare midriffs and short shorts – often way too short. Bright
colors and bold tribal prints appeared on bags, tops and dresses. As for me, tribal prints are one of my favorite trends of the season.Though I like the look for cooler temperatures, I
couldn’t grasp the concept of cowboy boots with dresses on a 98-degree day.

Wayfayer sunglasses are still going strong, though they still make me think of Tom
Cruise in Risky Business. Speaking of the ’80s: They’re back, along with plenty of neon and fanny packs galore.

Love or hate these
trends, there were some fierce forms of self-expression at this year’s Summerfest. And isn’t that what fashion is all about anyway?
