Still Battling the Budget

After a fairly long silence, I just had to check in and post something. With “My MKE” I tried briefly to expand my blog horizons and post more than just my two cents on Higher Education. I really wanted to write more broadly about Milwaukee and the great and not so great things I’ve learned living here. Since I’m not from here, or even from Wisconsin, I thought I might have a different perspective. I think it’s a great idea for a blog.   Ideas don’t always pan out, right? Since I’m not from here, or even from Wisconsin, I thought I might have a different perspective. I think it’s a great idea for a blog.

Ideas don’t always pan out, right? I found out quickly that my passion remains education and to be honest, I see a connection to education in just about everything around me–good and bad. It’s not that I don’t care about other things, it’s just that I always come back to one thing: the role of education in a healthy and thriving society. Yes, most of my professional experience is in higher ed, but my concerns are not limited to that level.

The right to, and the promise of, a good public education is fading fast. Some would probably say it’s already gone. I don’t know if I would go that far, but it’s hard not to feel that way. Why this isn’t a priority in Wisconsin (and many other states) remains baffling and disturbing.

In future days and weeks, I will return to posting my thoughts on what I can only describe as a national crisis.
