Politico is also reporting today on Paul Ryan’s campaign war chest, filled to burst with $5 million culled from all 50 states. In the House, only John Boehner and Michelle Bachman can match that total, according to the story.
Its headline – “Paul Ryan goes national” – feels outdated since the House Budget Committee chairman emerged as a conservative policy leader a couple years ago, but Politico suggests strongly that Ryan, if not preparing himself for higher office, is armoring himself to stand as a GOP leader for years to come.
He’ll need a ready defense; his most recent budget proposal, like those before it, calls for a major down-sizing of the federal government and entitlement programs.
