Finding the Right Hair Oil

Finding the Right Hair Oil

I’m sure by now you’ve been bombarded by as many hair products as you can imagine; one that straightens, one that curls, shines, adds texture, blah, blah, blah. Have you noticed the newly popular hair oils? They look a bit scary, especially if you’re used to washing your hair to get RID of oil. I wasn’t so sure myself – until I tried one – and now I can’t get by without an oil. While most don’t have a “hold” like a gel or cream, the main idea behind a hair oil is to protect and moisturize your tresses. So…

So here is a break down of some of the most popular hair oils, and who they fit best.

Bumble & bumble’s Hairdressers Invisible Oil

This one was just launched a few weeks ago and has leaped to glory like the rest of their products. At $38, the smell is amazing, it’s relatively light weight and does a great job smoothing down unruly locks. The down side is that it’s “relatively” light weight. I wouldn’t suggest someone with fine hair, or even someone trying to achieve volume with their styling to use this, as your style may slump by mid day. It’s perfect for someone with denser hair and a coarser hair strand (especially if you are flat ironing). Apply to damp hair from mid strand to ends and style! You can find this product at Carenza in Brookfield on Bluemound Rd.

Moroccan Oil

I can’t rant and rave enough about how much I love Moroccan Oil for my type. Being a blonde with fine hair (but a lot of it!), Moroccan Oil never disappoints me. It smoothes down the cuticle, and keeps my ends looking fresh, even if it’s been awhile since a haircut! Sometimes it’s the only product I use! I’m careful not to get it on the roots (where I want volume), so I apply the oil on damp hair from mid strand to ends. I never feel greasy, or weighed down. The smell brings me back to a day at the beach as a child! At $40, you can find it at GLOW Salon and Spa on N. Jackson St. in Milwaukee.

Pureology’s Precious Oil

Whenever I hear this product name, I say it in my head in the voice of Gollum from Lord of The Rings.  “Myyyy preeeccccciiiooouuuusss.”

Anyways, this is one of the heaviest hair oils I’ve tried. It has a heavenly scent of essential oils that would be wonderful the bathe in, but not much else unless you have incredibly dry, coarse, thick hair. This is the Mack Daddy of oils. It will put shine back where there once was none. Be careful though, use only a little bit! A pea size amount rubbed through your palms is about all you’ll need. Apply to damp hair mid-strand to ends and style. At $40, you can find his at Ulta.

Loreal Mythic Oil

At around $14 a bottle, Loreal doesn’t break the bank, and delivers as well! It doesn’t smell as luxurious as the other more expensive oils, but it still does the job. Without making the scalp greasy, the oil will happily tame frizzy and dry ends, helping you style your way to success. Make sure just to use a small pea-size amount, concentrating the bulk of the product towards the ends of damp hair. This works great on fine hair as well as thick, coarse hair. You can find this at Ulta.
