The Franklin Fire Station #1 was chosen as one of five finalists in The Family Handyman Rescue Remodel Contest. The contest – a partnership with The Family Handyman magazine and IKEA – will award a $25,000 customized IKEA kitchen makeover to the winner of a public vote. Voting will take place Feb. 15 through March 30 at rescueremodel.com.
The Franklin Fire station was remodeled in 1989, but the work is now falling apart, the submission said. And the new kitchen wouldn’t just benefit the firehouse’s 46 employees: The firehouse donates a “Dinner at the Firehouse” for local fundraisers and the current kitchen can’t keep up. Franklin goes up against four other firehouses.
