Wednesday, Jan. 11: Gabe Dixon Band at Shank Hall, 8 p.m. ($12)
For 10 years, Gabe Dixon fronted The Gabe Dixon Band (what a coincidence!) before setting out on his own in 2009. He quickly nabbed a song on the score of Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock rom-com The Proposal. Joining Dixon is Philly songstress Lelia Broussard (at left), a musician whose work has been favorably recognized by east coast radio stations, NPR and short-lived basic cable dramas alike. (1434 N. Thursday, Jan. 12: Polica at Cactus Club, 9 p.m.
If you’re anything like I was 15 minutes before writing this, you’ve never heard of Polica. However, the Minneapolis outfit’s connections to such notable Midwestern bands as Gayngs, Bon Iver and Vampire Hands seems to suggest Polica won’t fly under radars for long. The show is rendered all the more enticing by opening act Worrier, Milwaukee’s take on Foals. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., cactusclubmilwaukee.com)

Friday, Jan. 13: Brad Paisley at Bradley Center, 7:30 p.m. ($22-56)
Country crooner Brad Paisley has found crossover appeal, thanks in large to his good looks and his charming West Virginia roots. The three-time Grammy winner took Nashville and, later, the country by storm. The Billboard regular and his arena-sized collection of singles is bound to score as many points for Bradley Center attendees as, well, whoever the Bucks last hosted. (1001 N. MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Saturday, Jan. 14: Sat. Nite Duets at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($10)
As young as 2012 is, this Turner Hall showcase could just go down as the best combination of local bands to populate a bill all year. To give its latest album, Summer Of Punishment, a proper release, Sat. Nite Duets has enlisted the help of two of Milwaukee’s (other) up-and-coming acts—The Fatty Acids and Catacombz—to open things up. SND has already garnered attention from GQ and CNN to date. There’s no telling where the band will land when the new album drops, but we’re willing to bet it’ll be somewhere cushy. (1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
