Carhartt and Beer Take America
Carhartt is celebrating its 125th anniversary in a fitting way. The company partnered with New Holland Brewing to create the Carhartt Woodsman Barrel-Aged Pale Ale, and it’s bringing the brew on a national tour. Carhartt is sharing the beer with blue collar cities like Detroit, Chicago, and, of course, Milwaukee. They are setting up camp at Bender Park (4503 E. Ryan Rd.) from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24. Drink a beer in honor of an iconic brand.
Craft Beer By the Numbers
Market research firm IBISWorld recently released interesting stats about the continued growth of the craft beer industry. Revenue from craft beer production is expected to grow 16.8% by the end of 2014, and IBISWorld expects it to grow at an annual rate of 7.4% over the next five years. One of the most interesting stats mentioned in the report was that seasonal beers make up nearly 24% of the craft beer industry’s total revenue and this number is likely to remain strong.
Barley Pop of the Week
I’ve been anticipating trying it since Founders announced the recent release of the single-malt, single-hop Mosaic Promise American Pale Ale. It was worth the wait. The fruity taste and moderate bitterness of Mosaic hops (my favorite variety) is prevalent, and the flavor is straightforward. And, the beer clocks in at a relatively low 5.5% ABV, which is nice if you want to try a few at once… and you will.
Quick Taps
News surfaced last week that Pabst Brewing Company was purchased by Russian hipsters, or maybe it was just a Russian beverage company. Either way, Pabst is now foreign owned.
Sprecher Brewery (701 W. Glendale Ave.) is putting a Hunger Task Force food collection bin in the gift shop lobby during October. Those who donate three or more nonperishable food items receive a buy-one, get-one-free tour coupon.
