I swung by Sydney b. children’s boutique last week to pick up a little somethin’ for my newest niece. While there, I saw an absolutely charming collection of girl’s dresses featuring Peruvian pima cotton by Camille & Sophie. I Also saw a little one going gaga for an ultra-cool, pink Airflow Sky Princess tricycle. Outfitted with chrome details, rubber tires, adjustable seat and working headlight, it’s an inspired replica of a 1936 classic. And oh, be still her heart – they have a pink pedal car too. 1350 W. Mequon Rd., Mequon, 262-240-9970.

I don’t know about you, but after a long white winter I’m delighting in the trill of birds and blossoming trees signaling the coming wonder and warmth of summer. Feeling the same? I suggest you pop into the Butterfly Store located in Barb and Dick’s Wildflower. It’s chock full of seed mixes designed to attract the little beauties along with great books including field guides, kids stories and gorgeous coffee table selections.  You name it,  from hand-loomed pillows and throws, candleholders, wall art, totes, caps, garden signs, gifts and greeting cards, if it celebrates the butterfly you’ll find it here.  Mainly because Barb, who does so much to support the cause of these ethereal creatures, is absolutely besotted by them.  12326 W. Watertown Plank Rd., 414-454-0222, thebutterflystore.net.

Used to be getting tattooed was a right of passage for the rebellious, the disenfranchised or those embracing alternative lifestyles but like most trends, it’s definitely going mainstream. People increasingly get them to pay homage to friends and families, note the passing of loved ones, mark achievements or announce success in overcoming personal challenges. With this shift, former MIAD student Alana Green’s goal with Tattoos by Ilana is to offer an alternative to the traditional tattoo shop experience by rendering artfully expressive tattoos in the non-intimidating cozy Beehive Salon & Spa. Once an apprentice to renowned New York tattooist Lisa Fasulo, she is also giving a 30 percent discount on any tattoo booked during the month of May. 1547 N. Farwell Ave., 847-421-7986, tattoosbyilana.com.

Ladies only have until May 17 to save 50 percent on all women’s clothing at Aala Reed before everything left is packed up and donated to charity. The store is closing out that portion of their business to expand and funnel its focus back on what they’ve always done best, offering men of all ages exciting opportunities to dress with real style. But hey, all is not lost as fashionistas shopping alongside their honey’s or hubbies will continue to be treated to stylish accessories and jewelry – like the current launch of Butterfly Jones, a line of semi-precious stone earrings and necklaces featuring delicate gold and silver wire designed to make fine finishing statements. Future plans also include holding distinctly feminine designer trunk shows. 1320 E. Brady St., 226-2252, aalareed.com.

Fun and fashion come together with the launch of Rain Tree Gear, the city’s newest organic apparel line. Paired up with local NEWD clothing company and Sweetkicks, with music from D-ON, ‘Today’s Apparel for Tomorrow’s Environment’ fashion show will raise money for green causes. The evening begins at 9 p.m. at Aura (1011 N. Astor St.) and yes, fashions will be available for sale.  For more info visit themilwaukeescene.com/VIP or raintreegear.com.
