Beef Relief
Frozen custard? We have bowls and cones of it featured in the June issue, which hits newsstands this Monday. That’s our City Guide. You could subsist on a diet of frozen dessert after frozen dessert…. Mere hours separate you from a turtle sundae at Northpoint Custard. Thursday, 11 a.m. is D-Day. To refresh your menu memory a bit, Northpoint offers a range of burgers – for example, the Seagull with sautéed onions and Merkt’s cheese spread – sandwiches (fried perch sandwich, a Johnsonville brat, Kosher hot dog, Italian beef). Sides include tots, white cheddar cheese curds, crinkle fries and beer-battered onion rings. New in the category of beverages is the Komen-ade (strawberry lemonade), the proceeds from which go to Komen Milwaukee. Bartolotta head Joe B and his wife, Jennifer, are the honorary chairs of the 2012 Race For A Cure Southeast Wisconsin on Sept. 23. Back to this week… If you are into lines, step into the queue on Saturday (May 19), when Northpoint gives out free burgers to the first 200 people in line. (2272 N. Shell Shocked
National Sea Monkey Day, Pack Rat Day, No Dirty Dishes Day. These fall under the heading of odd and obscure holidays. And National Escargot Day? Tha’s not odd. It will be celebrated on May 24. You can get your fill of the little gastropod mollusks next Thursday at Le Rêve Patisserie & Cafe. The Tosa restaurant is serving a four-course snail menu from 5 p.m. on the 24th. Diners start with pernod warmed snails with smoked trout and toasted brioche over an apple-fennel-sorrel salad. Next up: wild Burgundy snails with bacon and caramelized onion croquettes. Then, butter-poached escargot with pan-seared halibut. Last course? Garlic glazed snails with Strauss lamb chop, fava beans, ramps and seared Parmesan gnocchi. Sounds tasty. $45 per person.
