Radio station 88Nine’s 4th annual Soundbites event is tonight (Jan. 22, 5:30-11 p.m.) at the Iron Horse Hotel (500 W. Florida St.). The format is as follows: DJs from 88.9 partner up with local chefs to create a song-menu pairing. For instance, at Paul Zerkel’s station, the Goodkind chef is preparing a buttermilk pancake with pork cheek marmalade and pickled raspberry puree. The song matched to the dish is “Breakfast Can Wait” by Prince. At another station, Joe Muench (of Maxie’s, Story Hill BKC and Blue’s Egg) is doing “faux gras” with sugar bee mushroom custard, sour grapes, pain perdu and sauterne reduction. The sonic pairing is “Stylo” by Gorillaz. Other restaurants participating in the event include Lake Park Bistro, Balzac, Juniper 61, Pastiche Bistro & Wine Bar and The Rumpus Room. A limited number of tickets ($125 each) are still available and can be purchased here.
