I’m especially taken with the appropriately opulent mac and cheese, with its white cheddar mornay sauce and crispy topping of buttered breadcrumbs, Parmesan and crumbled bacon. $16.

While standard elbow macaroni is the traditional pasta used in this dish, Fool’s Errand opts for ruffly edged radiatore pasta, which has a wonderfully chewy texture that the smoked Gouda cream sauce clings to. $16.
3. Maxie’s

The Southern-inspired eatery serves a baked white cheddar mac and cheese that seems a lot like a mom version – baked so that the noodles and buttery cracker topping make a nice little top crust. The mornay oozes with cheesiness, thanks to the addition of Hook’s 2-year white cheddar. $9.
