Milwaukee Public Schools will lose at least 503 teachers this spring, including 434 or more who will retire. As of early April, some 700 staffers of all kinds had announced plans to leave. Many are doing so because of changes in retirement eligibility brought about by Gov. Scott Walker’s Act 10 legislation. Can MPS’ 700-teacher hiring blitz make up the difference?
