East Town’s Jazz in the Park celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2016 and Milwaukee Magazine is partnering with the iconic Downtown Milwaukee event for all sorts of giveaways and other goodies throughout the summer!
The headlining act for June 2 — the kick-off event for this year’s weekly event — is Milwaukee Soul. The band brings back the sounds of ’60s and ’70s Motown and soul, covering the likes of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, Wilson Pickett, Chaka Khan, and many more. You can see a sampling of the band’s regular playlist here — and if reading this list doesn’t make you want to get up and dance, we’re not sure what will!
According to Milwaukee Soul’s website, “The band features the trio of Joe Jordan, Jess Moore and Marcya Daneille, each well known throughout the Midwest for their individual vocals, but together, an unstoppable force of harmony. Backed by top musicians including Theo Merriweather, Winfield Gaylor and an award winning rhythm section, Milwaukee Soul truly delivers Aretha, Chaka, Marvin, Stevie and all your ol’ school favorites.”
