You Ought To Be In Pictures

While his business has only been around since 2005, Don has been experimenting with cameras since he made his first video back in 1972.  Instead pursuing his dream after high school he took a job with Laacke & Joys to support his family but eventually his passion for photography returned and he started You Ought To Be In Pictures.   Meeting Don for the first time it’s clear that photography is more than just a job to him.  He has created a studio in the back of his home that is professional while at the same time is warm and…

Hilton Garden Inn

With its location near General Mitchell it may be hard to believe that there is a hotel that goes beyond any preconceived notions you may have of the typical “airport hotel”. Upon walking the Hilton Garden Inn I immediately forgot about any planes that may have been flying closely overhead. Built in 2010, this hotel is a hub of many business travelers during the week but on the weekend it has the potential to hold wedding receptions and events that rival some of its downtown counterparts. I met with Mila Godic, Sales Manager at the Hilton who gave me a…

Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum

Hidden a few blocks from the bustle of Prospect Avenue is a historical gem that Milwaukee residents may overlook in the shadow of the many large estates that line the lake. Designed and built in 1923 by architect David Adler, the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum is a Mediterranean marvel taken straight from northern Italy. Originally built for Lloyd R. Smith, the estate was first named Sopra Mare which translates to “Above the Sea”. Regally perched on a bluff high above Lake Michigan the name is fitting to the setting.  For a bit of history on the location, Mr. Smith…

Rich’s House of Cakes

Walking into Rich’s House of Cakes with a cup of coffee in my hand and the smell of vanilla in the air I smiled, absolutely loving that this excursion was part of my job. If I’m going to recommend wedding cakes to my clients I not only have to meet the owners of the many fabulous bakeries in Milwaukee but I of course, have to sample the cake. So on a rainy Milwaukee morning I decided that the best way to start my day was to meet with David Rich at his family bakery located on South 27th Street. Stepping into…

Klemmer’s Banquet Center

On Thursday evening, I had the opportunity to tour Klemmer’s Banquet Center. Located on Oklahoma Avenue, Katie Klemmer and her family are approaching their 34th anniversary as the owners of Klemmers which was formerly The Williamsburg Inn. Walking into Klemmers with its traditional Williamsburg décor you feel as though you are being welcomed into someone’s home, which is essentially how Katie treats her many customers. On a Thursday night all of the six banquet rooms were filled which is a testament to not only the service but the food itself. Looking at Klemmers from the perspective of a wedding planner…

Creative Crabbe

Weddings are a reason to celebrate and let’s face it, living in Wisconsin most of the time our celebrations include a bottle of beer, classic cocktail or glass of vino.  Bottles of wine and sometimes liquor are put on dinner tables at wedding receptions for guests to enjoy but many times the bottles, while they are of course thoroughly enjoyed, do not add to the ambiance of the table design. Trending now are personalized labels to apply to any wine, liquor, or beer bottle of your choosing.  While there are many do-it-yourself programs, I’ve found local Etsy vendor Creative Crabbe…
