Sprecher Releases a Truly Rare Brew

Barrel-aged beer fans need to clear the calendar for Sunday morning and head to Walker’s Point.

Limited beer releases are a welcomed trend among local breweries. Scarcity breeds intrigue and excitement on the local beer scene and places like Good City, Third Space, Lakefront and Raised Grain are no strangers to long lines before beer release events.

Sprecher Brewing is adding its own entry into the rare release category on Sunday, April 29, when it unveils Night Demon, a barrel-aged Belgian Dubbel, at the Sprecher Walker’s Point Taproom (706 S. 5th St.) at 9 a.m. (Note that Night Demon is only for sale at the taproom and won’t be available at Sprecher Brewing Company, 701 W. Glendale Ave.)

Referring to the beer as “limited” is an understatement. Just 100 one-liter bottles of the single-batch brew will be available at $20 each. With a limit of three bottles per person, that means very few Milwaukeeans will get their hands on one.

The Belgian Dubbel was aged for a year in oak bourbon barrels and registers a 10% ABV. Its flavor is described by the brewery as a complex mix of dried fruits, caramel sweetness, oak and hints of bourbon. Night Demon should develop nicely if cellared.

Sprecher is no stranger to barrel aging. Its portfolio includes the barrel-aged Czar Brew Russian Imperial Stout, an underrated stout that boasts plenty of complexity. Expect good things from Night Demon.
