In June of 2022, I went to Nashville for my birthday weekend. I was living in Madison, and Bryn was in Phoenix. We happened to be at the same country-music bar in Nashville, and he asked me to dance. He caught my attention with what a good dancer he was and the cute British accent.

We kept in touch via texts and calls before he asked what I was doing July Fourth weekend. We happened to both be going to Las Vegas. We dated for over a year, traveling the U.S. and world, covering seven countries and many states. Bryn proposed in October of 2023 at his favorite secluded beach in Southern California at sunset.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

The wedding day started at Impressions Salon for me and the girls – getting-ready shots at The Pfister Hotel, first look at the North Point Lighthouse, a reading of our personal vows and wedding party pics at Lakeshore State Park, and the ceremony and reception at The Pfister’s Imperial Ballroom. In honor of how we met, we dazzled friends and family with a choreographed dance to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

With Bryn’s British background and my Wisconsin/Brazilian heritage, we included these cultural themes to celebrate our personalities. Flower arrangements included white rose blooms, blue accent florals and orchids, interspersed with tropical foliage. Cocktail hour included “Kayla’s Caipirinha,” “Bryn’s Gin” and the Wisconsin Old Fashioned.

British cheese names were assigned to the tables, also a nod to me being a cheesehead. Our dessert and late-night station included Brazilian brigadeiros, sticky toffee pudding, fish and chips, and Brazilian pão de queijo. Lastly, our guests were given traditional Brazilian wedding favors called “bem-casados” – cookies that are filled with dulce de leche or guava paste and dusted with sugar. Our wedding day gave us the majestic feeling we had dreamt of and the realization we had each found our soulmate and best friend. We concluded with a honeymoon to Italy.

Our love story continues as we are expecting our first baby, due in February of 2026.

The Magic Moment

Kayla: On our second date, we spent so much time talking, I realized not only that we had so much in common, but that he was my perfect match. We both love travel, history, food and art museums. We could talk for hours on many subjects.

Bryn: I knew she was the one when she came to spend Christmas with me and made it feel like home. The effort she went to really showed that she cared. No one had done that for me before.
