When you walk into The Pfister Hotel, you’ll notice something different. All the iconic pieces are there – the beautiful mural on the curved ceiling, the lion statues, the cozy fireplace – but the space feels lighter, more open. That’s the result of a thoughtful renovation of the historic hotel that was just completed in January.
With new furnishings, carpeting, lighting and an updated color palette, the grand entrance to The Pfister is brighter and more inviting, while still retaining the stately character that has made it a cornerstone of Milwaukee’s downtown for over a century.
The space is unmatched for atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping for a quick cocktail at the bar, or ordering an absinthe tower to enjoy with friends, the warmth of the ornate fireplace, high ceilings, and walls replete with eye-catching paintings create a cozy escape. And you’re only a few steps from a delicious dinner at Mason Street Grill or lunch at the Café at The Pfister—or an elevator ride from Afternoon Tea and cocktails at Blu, the hotel’s 23rd-floor lounge with a skyline view.
“The renovation has enhanced the guest experience, ensuring the hotel’s continued elegance and relevance,” says Briana Greer, the hotel’s chef concierge. “These updates position The Pfister to thrive for another 131 years, seamlessly blending historic charm with modern amenities.”
Head upstairs to the guest rooms, and you’ll see much more dramatic renovations. The Pfister’s guest rooms have been completely redone and modernized with luxury furnishings, new bathrooms and more. The update brings all the modern touches you would expect to the charming historic feel of The Pfister.
“Guests have appreciated the updated blend of contemporary design and the hotel’s historic charm,” says Greer. “I’ve heard that the spacious, refreshed lobby and meeting rooms offer a welcoming environment, and the updated bar and lounge areas are loved for their chic, sleek atmosphere.”
Along with the first-floor and guest rooms, The Pfister also has newly-revitalized seventh-floor. The event spaces and ballrooms – used for weddings, corporate events and more – boast a new state-of-the-art sound and lighting system and redone interiors. “I’m absolutely in love with our seventh-floor lobby area,” Greer says. “The bar has been beautifully updated, offering a sleek, modern look, and the new artwork truly pops, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.”
The newly updated Pfister is ideal for a relaxing staycation. You can make the hotel your centerpiece for a weekend of Downtown exploration, but you don’t even have to leave the building to enjoy a vacation. There’s more than enough to fill your time in The Pfister. Besides dining, it’s also home to a pool with an amazing view of the city, WELL Spa + Salon, and is both pet- and family-friendly.
“Staying at The Pfister is special because it blends rich history with modern luxury,” says Greer. “Guests enjoy timeless elegance, personalized service, and unique amenities like an Artist in Residence and stunning views of downtown Milwaukee. The seamless mix of classic charm and contemporary comfort ensures an unforgettable experience.”
