Over 500 Kites Will Fly Over Veterans Park This Weekend

“Let’s go fly a kite, up to the highest height.”

Be ready for awe-inspiring sights at the Family Kite Festival, held May 27-28 in Veterans Park. The soaring 100-foot-long inflatable whale kite you see here is so big, “you could drive a school bus into its mouth,” says Scott Fisher, owner of Gift of Wings, the flight director of this fest for 35 years.

We want to see your best work. Architects, interior designers, renovation experts and landscapers: Enter your residential projects in Milwaukee Magazine’s new design competition.

Feast your eyes on kite performances orchestrated by professional flyers, and much more: Get a kite-flying lesson, catch brats and candy dropped by parachute (for real) and join in the countdown that happens at noon each day, when they’ll launch over 500 kites at once to the tune of “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins. Psyched yet?

Event is at Veterans park on Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, May 28  from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
