Ophelia The Escaped Otter Has Been Captured

Louie, who also escaped from the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park in Green Bay, remains at large.

Have you been following the odyssey of Louie and Ophelia, Wisconsin’s Escaped Otters? If not, you’re missing out. The pair escaped from the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park in Green Bay in March and have both been on the lam since – until now.

Ophelia the river otter was trapped and secured on Friday, March 28 and returned to the New Zoo. Her return was not announced until the following Tuesday when her identity was confirmed by the zoo. She underwent an examination before being let back into her enclosure.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

Ophelia is back in her regular habitat but may not be on view for guests to visit. The NEW Zoo noted that Ophelia has always been shy and enjoys tucking under things for naps.

Louie, her escape partner, remains at large.

Since it is otter breeding season, the zoo suspects that he could have traveled further than Ophelia.

“Louie is likely ranging a bit further from home than Ophelia did, but it’s still likely that he’s not all that far away,” said the NEW Zoo on Facebook.

The zoo is using motion-activated cameras as one part of its effort to find the remaining escaped otter.

If you think you might have spotted Louie, the zoo encourages people to send in reports of sightings, along with pictures or videos when possible to aid in the search. You can find the New Zoo on Facebook and at its website newzoo.org.
