My friend/podcast co-host Tarik Moody often laments the dearth of Southern food available in this town. This news brings him a bit of hope: A new place named Christopher’s – focusing on Southern cuisine – will open in April at North Avenue Market (5900 W. North Ave.). Located on the ground level of the space, it will also be the sole full-service dining experience, per the market’s owner, Chris Harris Morse.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!
Christopher’s will soft-open in April, with plans for an open house/official opening in early June. Harris Morse says he was inspired by his own background, growing up in North Carolina, and that of his general manager, Michael Pyle-Harris, a Virginia native who at one time owned a BBQ restaurant. Bittercube, which has been at the market since the beginning, will transition to serving a Southern-influenced drink menu, and will continue to operate Mosler’s Vault, the speakeasy located in the garden level of the building.
When the market opened in 2022, it started with several food concepts that changed over time. But food has not been its only focus. It has areas designed for co-working and conferences, plus a stage for live entertainment and a garden-level event space. The market will continue to have live music on Friday and Saturday nights. It will also stay open during the food transition. Harris Morse says the changeover to Christopher’s will happen gradually through April. So you’ll have a mixed menu of offerings until the transition is complete.
