Let Milwaukee Magazine catch you up to speed on all the water-cooler talk and witness some sweet moves from an Olympic luger.

  • This morning’s agenda for the Common Council includes electing a new president. The Biz Times has a bit more on race. It seems Alderman Michael Murphy is the front-runner, but we’ve seen more than a few upsets in our day.
  • Here’s more fodder for the alumni fundraising newsletter: The Milwaukee Public Museum has announced Denni Kois will take over as its new president come May. Kois, is a Whitefish Bay native and a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate.
  • Two Wisconsin teens are headed to D.C. Patrick O’Grady, 18, of Brookfield and Ted Colwell, 13, of Hubertus were awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Along with pocketing $1,000 and an engraved silver medallion, the two finalists will pack their bags for Washington, D.C. to join other honorees for four days of national recognition events.
  • And a closing chapter for America’s Sweetheart. Shirley Temple brought smiles to moviegoers in the dark days of the Depression. It was announced that she passed at the age 85.
  • Finally, to warm you up on what we hope is the last day of our arctic temperatures for the year, get a look at Olympian Kate Hansen’s Beyoncé-inspired moves. Let the NBC commentators hate; we love seeing the mojo working.
