Local Accessories Maker Permanent Baggage to Be Carried in 3 Bon-Ton Stores

A big deal for any local designer.

Permanent Baggage, the lower East Side accessories brand and boutique, will soon be carried in the Grand Avenue Boston Store, according to an email release. The brand will also be carried in two other Bon-Ton-owned stores around the state. The stores will carry PB’s relatively simple jewelry and handbag designs, which often feature brass and creamy, supple leather.

The Permanent Baggage boutique also carries other local makers, including candlemaker Big White Yeti, essential oils from Beehive Alchemy and more.

Bon-Ton isn’t the only national retailer tapping into the niche appeal of local makers. West Elm has a small section featuring a rotation of local artists, and Nordstrom stressed its Midwest connections, like art hanging throughout the store, during its opening at Mayfair Mall. Local is chic, sayeth these retail behemoths, but of course Milwaukee shoppers already knew that.

In other retail news, The Corners in Brookfield is getting womenswear chain Scout & Molly’s that will open in spring 2017.
