Central Waters 17
Happy anniversary to Central Waters. The brewery is celebrating in style with a 17th anniversary bash on Saturday, Jan. 24 at its location in Amherst. As usual, the daylong event will feature live music, food, and plenty of Central Waters beers on tap. The big draw is the chance to pick up a bottle of the barrel-aged 17th Anniversary Stout. Tickets that reserve an allotment of the stout are sold out, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the trip.
Brewing Like a Goddess
The Goddess Brewing Series at Discovery World (500 N. Harbor Dr.) lets women learn brewing from the best. On Feb. 26, Emily Erler, a brewer and Bierklasse director for Lowlands Group, leads female brewers through the process of creating a Belgian tripel. Participants come back two weeks later to bottle the brew. The cost is $45 for the general public and $35 for Discovery World members.
Perennial Brings Abraxas to Rumpus Room
Perennial is taking over the taps at Rumpus Room (1030 N. Water St.) on Monday, Jan. 26 and they’re bringing some special brews. The outstanding Abraxas Imperial Stout and Sump Coffee Stout are two of the amazing selections planned for the night and are part of a list of eight Perennial brews. The tap menu is just part of the festivities. Rumpus Room is also hosting a four-course beer dinner, which starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $55. Call 414-272-0100 to make a reservation.
Barley Pop of the Week
An extremely bitter beer would be appropriate considering the Packers’ bitter (and shocking) defeat on Sunday, but I’m trying to let it go. Instead I’ll go with Solemn Oath Axe Scar Pig. The American red ale has a mild hop bitterness and a fair amount of malt. It’s extremely easy to drink and another solid brew from the guys at Solemn Oath.

Draft Magazine has a list of 10 beers that taste like cocktails. I can vouch for Pipeworks Brown & Stirred, but it’s the only one on the list that I’ve tried.

Founders announced KBS release dates last week. The tasty barrel-aged stout starts shipping on March 30. Mark your calendar.
Events Brewing
Tuesday, Jan. 20: As of Sunday there were a few tickets left to a Belgian tasting at The Malt Shoppe (813 N. Mayfair Rd.). The event gives attendees a chance to try Chimay Blue, Chimay Red and Chimay White side-by-side with similar beers. The unique tasting starts at 7:30 p.m. and costs $20.
Tuesday, Jan. 20: Erv’s Mug (130 W. Ryan Rd.) hosts a beer dinner featuring Alaskan Brewery and seating is from 5 to 8 p.m. The menu looks tasty, and Alaskan brews good stuff. Call 414-762-5010 to reserve a spot.
Wednesday, Jan. 21: The Milwaukee Beer Society hosts a celebration of its first anniversary at Best Place (901 W. Juneau Ave.) starting at 6 p.m. For just $10, you can sample some of the best beers the society tried in 2014.
Thursday, Jan. 22: Not everyone gets to take over the taps at Romans’ Pub (3475 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.), but Karben4 earned the right and will be there starting at 7 p.m. Fantasy Factory IPA on tap is reason enough to be there.
