Hear from artists and cultural practitioners about being and supporting citizen artists.

Each Friday in October, Imagine MKE is holding a series of virtual conversations about connecting Milwaukee’s artistic and civic life. This week, viewers will be able to hear from artists and cultural practitioners about being and supporting citizen artists. The event will take place virtually at noon, live on Imagine MKE’s Facebook page

The conversation’s featured speakers this week are Shalina S. Ali, Co-Executive Director of TRUE Skool, Inc.; Nailah Johnson, Cultural Strategies Manager of Leaders Igniting Transformation; Sam Rikkers, Deputy Secretary/COO of Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation; and Bela Suresh Roongta, artist, writer and storyteller.

The conversation series looks to discuss the ways in which art creation and social engagement can work to build a more inclusive Milwaukee. “At this moment – on the cusp of a critically important election, in the middle of a financially and socially devastating pandemic and the renewed fight for racial justice – we need our artists’ voices now more than ever,” reads the event’s description.
