Imagine MKE is holding the first of a series of virtual conversations today at noon about how Milwaukee’s artistic and civic life often interconnect to make Milwaukee what it is.

This week’s event explores the connectedness of our city’s artistic and civic life through reflections on Dasha Kelly Hamilton’s poem “Of.” In addition to the poem, panelists include Melody McCurtis of Metcalfe Park Community Bridges, Leana Nakielski from American Family Insurance, Dr. Robert Smith from Marquette University, and Rep. Jonathan Brostoff, according to ImagineMKE Director of Marketing and Public Relations Lindsay Sheridan.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

“[The] panel will be focused on the “road of democracy,” in both concept and practice,” Imagine MKE said on their Facebook event. “How can we, as a community, understand our place along the road? How can we continue to more effectively build the road to be inclusive and representative for all?”

Imagine MKE is a collaborative effort bringing together community leaders with the goal of retransforming the city by use of its local culture and art forms. Fine and performing arts have been a large part of social justice and community transformation of late, with several initiatives created by artists to support issues such as the Black Lives Matter movement.
