May 31: Jazzy Orgy

Jazz in the Park is ready to start with a bang this summer. Jazz Orgy will be performing from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, in Cathedral Square Park. The local Wisconsin jazz group is composed of drummer Mike Underwood; pianist, organist and keyboardist Mark Martin; bassist and vocalist Andy Mertens; and saxophonist and vocalist Stephen Cooper.

Although these players are consistent with the group, Jazz Orgy will occasionally rotate special guests — like a musical orgy. Their name also comes from the group’s overall vibe and the type of jazz they identify with.

Jazz Orgy got together 18 years ago and has been performing together ever since, playing both well-known jazz favorites and improvisations and solos. The group consistently plays in Oshkosh, Neenah and Appleton throughout the week.
