Bring Fido to your next 5K!
Just like us, Milwaukee’s canine population also gets summer fever and boy do they want to run it off. Fortunately, some of our best fun runs are open to humans and dogs.
Walk Run Wag 2017 for MAADAC
A fundraiser for Friends of Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, this July 8 event, which takes place in Wauwatosa’s Hart Park, includes the option to participate with your dog in a 5K run or a 1- or 2-mile walk. Note that the deadline to register by mail is June 30 and online registration closes on July 2.
Summer Trail Running Series
The Summer Trail Running Series is a partnership between Kenosha Running Company and Kenosha County Parks Department. Each Wednesday-night run kicks off at 6 p.m., with locations throughout the county. Upcoming runs are July 12 at Fox River Park in Bristol, July 26 at Silver Lake Park in Bristol, Aug. 9 at Petrifying Springs in Bristol and August 20 at Running Free Trail Run in Silver Lake.
Hosted at UW-Parkside in Kenosha on its nationally acclaimed 5K cross-country course, this 100-mile point-to-point relay race consists of 33 loops. It’s also dog-friendly. Team sizes range from two to 33 runners, depending how far you want to run. This July 29 event is run in conjunction with the Hot Hilly Hairy Ultra, and if you can’t already tell by its name, the theme is a bit wacky! (Case in point: one of the events is a solo “18-Hour Death March.”)
Head over to Old Settlers Park in Paddock Lake on September 9. Dogs are completely welcome—and encouraged—at this 5K race. The route snakes around Paddock Lake’s residential areas. Your reward after? German cuisine!
