The Double ButterBurger with Cheese, a creation of Wisconsin-based Culver’s, reigns supreme as the country’s best cheeseburger, an honor bestowed by The Fasties, the fast-food awards cooked up by Thrillist, the New York City-based media website that covers food, drink, travel and entertainment.
“You’d be hard-pressed to find a chain that won’t boast about its ‘high-quality’ ingredients, but it’s absolutely true here: You won’t be getting any flaccid lettuce or translucent tomatoes,” Thrillist noted of Culver’s premium burger. “Every one of these beauties is made-to-order and emerges piping hot, with its Wisconsin-made cheese adding a wonderfully balanced touch of sharpness atypical of American cheese. This is the ideal fast-food burger, one that feels like it came from a mom n’ pop shop, and whose flavor is all the more transcendent with a side of cheese curds and a frozen custard.”
Thrillist claims to have dispatched its most trusted fast-food experts from around the country to visit each major chain to chow down premium cheeseburgers and see how they stacked up overall. Each burger was judged on its ingredients, aesthetics, freshness and “overall deliciousness.”
Thrillist noted that Culver’s continues to expand beyond its Midwest base, which will allow consumers in other parts of the country to judge for themselves whether the Double ButterBurger with Cheese is worthy of its meaty ranking.
The Culver’s burger edged out In-N-Out’s Double-Double, which ranked second overall, and Sonic Drive-In’s SuperSonic double cheeseburger, which held down the third spot.
