Plus CFM at Cactus Club and Danksgiving.

The Milwaukee music scene rarely slows down for a holiday and Thanksgiving is no exception. Here are four shows to gobble up during this festive week:

Tuesday, November 22: Colors & Chords at Turner Hall Ballroom

See firsthand the inspirational nature of music, as local bands perform onstage at Turner Hall Ballroom while a visual artist crafts a work live during the set. The annual concert raises funds for Islands of Brilliance, a Milwaukee nonprofit that provides mentoring services for children with autism. This year bands include Rusty Pelicans, Lex Allen, Midwest Death Rattle, Nineteen Thirteen, The Lovelies, C.M.P., Hello Death, Keith Pulvermacher Band and Dryhouse Ruins, and the artists creating the interpretations are Pamela M. Anderson, Dwellephant, Jeff Redmon, Melissa Dorn Richards, Frank Juarez, David Mark Zimmerman, Tia Richardson, Cynthia Short, Betty Blexrud-Strigens and Kim Henry.. Tickets to the benefit cost $25 (available here) and doors open at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, November 23: Danksgiving at Mad Planet

Work up a mean appetite for the following day by dancing all Wednesday night long during Mad Planet’s second annual Danksgiving show. The show includes performances by The Rusty Pelicans, No No Yeah Okay, Bo & Airo and Dad and features the DJ skills of Marcus Doucette. Doors open at 9 p.m. Advance tickets are $8 (available here) and $10 at the door.

Friday, November 25: Black Friday at Cactus Club

Avoid the consumerism nightmare hitting every suburban mall this weekend and instead check out the Black Friday Party at Cactus Club, which features local musicians Lorde Fredd33, Klassik, Rich-P and Chakara Blu. At only $7, that’s quite a deal. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Saturday, November 26: CFM at Cactus Club

Guitarist Charles Moothart comes to the Cactus Club on Saturday night with an impressive garage-rock pedigree. He’s played in multiple projects with longtime friends Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin, including the hard rock band Fuzz, which places Moothart’s monster riffs at the center of everything. But while he’s traveled the world ostensibly as the sideman, this April Moothart went out on his own (as CFM) for his first solo debut, Still Life of Citrus and Slime. While he puts his own distorted spin on psych-rock, fans of Ty Segall won’t want to miss this show. Doors open at 9 p.m. Local acts Static Eyes, Slow Walker, Soup Moat and DJ Andy Junk open the show.

Stream of the Week

Sometimes all you want from music is to transport you to a different place. After this weekend’s bitterly cold winds, the warm bluegrass tones of Chicken Wire Empire’s welcoming 9-track self-titled album conjure up the sensation of a sweltering hot summer day. Right now, that feels like sweet relief.
