This Bites (on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee) is back with another episode that covers disparate dining topics in and around the city.
First, Tarik Moody and I talk about author/chef/columnist Samin Nosrat’s visit to Milwaukee. Nosrat – who wrote the great cookbook Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking – is coming to MKE as part of the UWM Distinguished Lecture Series on Oct. 22 (7 p.m.). The location of her talk is the UWM Student Union (2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.). If you haven’t bought Nosrat’s book, you need to. And East Side bookseller Boswell will be at the event selling copies of her book.
There is no dearth of burger places in our town, but just like with fish fries and pizza, there’s never too many. Hot Box Burger Shop is slated to open by early next year in the old Hybrid Lounge on the corner of Van Buren and Brady. It’ll offer burgers (single, double and triple), frozen custard, sandwiches, even boozy beverages.
We also have some events on our radar. Halloween is oh-so-close, and Shully’s Cuisine & Catering has just the event for kids – a Harry Potter cooking camp, held on Oct. 16. There was recently the Battle of the Chefs event on Sunday, Oct. 13, and from now until Oct. 27, Oyster Fest at Harbor House.
