This Bites: Food Lover's One Day Tour of Madison

The culinary podcast featuring 88Nine’s Tarik Moody and MilMag’s Ann Christenson talking about all things dining-related.

How often do you take a Wisconsin road trip? And I don’t mean going Up North. You can reach some cool cities just an hour from MKE – hang out for a day and be back home to sleep in our your own bed that night. On this week’s edition of This Bites, the culinary podcast on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, Tarik and I talk about my trip to Madison for MilMag’s August cover story.

It’s packed with culinary stops that begin as soon as I drive into the city. I suggest you come to Madison on a Saturday to check out the Dane County Farmers Market located on Capitol Square. Grab a pastry and coffee while you browse and you will want to shop, so come equipped with bags and a cooler. Other stops we talk about include the cheese shop Fromagination, the butcher shop Underground Meats, and the great Willy Street restaurant A Pig in a Fur Coat. Those are just a few of the stops on my Madison road trip. Listen to our podcast to get the full itinerary.

For other topics, our slurry of events includes the Mexican Street Party at Merriment Social. Holy food specialties from Jalisco, Mexico! Besides lots of food, the Merriment guys  also doing a Margarita Competition. The party is Sunday, Aug. 4, 1-8 p.m. Also, coming up on Aug, 10 (6 p.m.) at the Yard at the Iron Horse Hotel is an event called Pig & Pinot. It features three food courses and accompanying Pinot wines chosen by Katie Espinosa, fine wine director and advanced sommelier at Johnson Brothers Wisconsin.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
