We Tried It: Wisconsin State Fair 2019 New Foods Paired With Classics

We went to try the new foods but, naturally, we had to pay tribute to the classics.

A few weeks ago, we tracked down some of the craziest new foods coming to the 2019 Wisconsin State Fair. On the first day of the fair, MilMag’s intern team tried some of what’s new, along with a few fair classics.

Deep Fried Milk with Cookie Dip

Fried food is an obvious fair staple, and this snack fits the bill – without the overwhelming greasy effect. We had high expectations for this treat and were far from disappointed. The color of the dip – vaguely reminiscent of charcoal – was a little surprising, but it turned out to be the best part of the meal.

Milwaukee Bucks Milk House

For 50 cents a cup, the Milk House is hands-down the best deal you’ll find at the fair. It offers five flavors: chocolate, strawberry, root beer, chocolate peanut butter and green mint. We tried them all, of course, but the classic chocolate was the winner.

Blazin’ Jalapeno Deep Fried Olives

They do have a kick to them, but they’re definitely not as spicy as the title suggests. The strongest flavor was the vinegary olives, but our favorite parts were the crisp breading and cheese filling.

Original Cream Puff

Trying the Original Cream Puff for the first time, we were floored by the copious amount of whipped cream on each pastry; there’s no way to take a bite without adorning yourself with a sugary white mustache. To get the full experience, you just have to embrace the mess.

We also tried the World’s Hottest Jerky on a Stick and the Rattlesnake Soup at All Things Jerky and Exotic Meat Grill. Check out our article for the full rundown.
