This Bites: Beer + Cheese, Danny Boone Fest and Bavette

Inside our August cover story, plus some other foodie news.

On this week’s This Bites (8 a.m. Fridays on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee), Tarik Moody and I talk about two quintessentially Wisconsin things ‒ beer and cheese. They’re the subject of the cover story of Milwaukee Magazine’s August issue. We highlight a few components of the story, including the tasty components of the Ultimate Cheese Plate. And my Ode to Limburger sends us on a little tangent about stinky cheese and the bacteria used to make it.

This Sunday, if your calendar is open, come on down to the Third Ward for Danny Boone Fest, which celebrates the second anniversary of Dandan restaurant. It’s a music and food event, with everyone from Dandan to Snack Boys to Iron Grate BBQ offering food. Boone & Crockett is covering the beverage side of things.

Mequon Public Market, part of the Spur 16 community development on Mequon Road, is filling out nicely. Having previously announced Anodyne Coffee, Beans & Barley and Cafe Corazon as market vendors, Bavette La Boucherie is the latest addition, just announced this week. Hear more about it on this episode:

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
