Temperatures may be dropping, but beer events aren't going anywhere. This week's highlight is the seventh annual Mittenfest at Burnhearts, an outdoor block party that lets you show winter who's boss.
Wednesday, Jan. 30
Evil Twin takes over the taps at Ray’s Growler Gallery (8930 W. North Ave.) at 5 p.m.
The Milwaukee Beer Society heads to Stock House Brewing (7208 W. North Ave.) from 6 to 9 p.m. to see what the Wauwatosa brewery has going on.
The Brass Tap (7808 W. Layton Ave.) taps a few gems from Third Space Brewing, including a couple of Liquid Layers Barrel-Aged Barleywine variants starting at 6 p.m.
DOC’s Commerce Smokehouse (754 N. 4th St.) hosts a four-course barrel-aged beer dinner. The cost is just $35, or $45 if you want to take home a bottle of Swine Wine Barrel-Aged Imperial IPA after dinner.
Thursday, Jan. 31
Surly Brewing takes over a few of the taps at The Brass Tap — that means Barrel-Aged Darkness, my friends. Get there after 4 p.m. to sample a few and meet Surly owner Omar Ansari.
Friday, Feb. 1
1840 Brewing (342 E. Ward St.) releases Plumpy Plum and Peach Wild Ale and Italian Drinking Chocolate Imperial Stout on draft from 3 to 10 p.m. Bottles go on sale Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Head to West Bend for the Washington County Beer Festival, which takes place at the Washington County Fair Park and Conference Center (3000 Pleasant Valley Rd., West Bend). From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. choose from more than 100 beers and a dozen wines to sample. Advance tickets are $35 ($40 at the door). VIP tickets are available online and allow for early entry, food and access to a specialty beer.
City Lights hands out samples at Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.) from 3 to 6 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 2
The amazing winter event that is Mittenfest kicks off at noon at Burnhearts (2599 S. Logan Ave.). Bundle up, bring a non-perishable food item and prepare for the best winter block party that there is. Be prepared for plenty of rare brews by Central Waters and three years of Founders KBS Barrel-Aged Stout vintages. Cheers to the crew at Burnhearts for this awesome event that’s in its seventh year.
Head to The Fermentorium (7481 State Road 60, Cedarburg) for a morning Downdogs & Drafts yoga session at 11 a.m. The one-hour session costs $15.
Try beers from the Bavarian Bierhaus at Discount Liquor Milwaukee from noon to 3 p.m.
Head to Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow St.) to try samples from New Belgium (noon to 2 p.m.) and City Lights (2 to 5 p.m.).
Sunday, Feb. 3
Yoga comes to Third Space (1505 W. St. Paul Ave.) Get there around 10:15 a.m. to settle in for the one-hour session that starts at 10:30 a.m. Cost is just $15, and you get a beer.
